Colchester High Street M&S building set to be sold for £2m

This week we hear from Colchester Gazette that they have been in touch with City And Country Developments who have confirmed they have reached a deal with  M&S reported to be worth £2million.  Colchester High Street M&S building set to be sold for £2m. Hopefully this will finally see the old High Street building revived and restored, which is the much needed boost Colchester High Street has been waiting for.

Discussions have apparently been ongoing for several months between City and Country and representatives for from Marks and Spencer and development at the High Street site is expected to start next year ( 2025 )

The store has been empty for more then 2 two years and we know it will be a costly project to remove all the Asbestos from the building. we’re also being told by Colchester Gazette that the developers are in talks with a number of potential tenants. the plan is to convert the building into a number of smaller units for retail, restaurants and events. We simply can’t wait to see this come to fruition.

We’ve contacted City and Country Developments  for further comments and await their response, but from what we can see they would be ideal to take on the task of restoring this iconic City Centre Building. specializing in restoration projects up and down the country and having been awarded House Builders of the Year 2024.

According to their website George Clarke is their Brand Ambassador and it seems they only take on really ambitious projects. All in all this can only be good news and we wish City And County every success in this new venture.
